This incredible book set in 17th century China is an absorbing read with so many twists I was hooked from the beginning. Also, a fascinating look at Chinese rituals and
customs from that timeframe. I don't know how they got anything done with so many things to worry about. It made me realize how little of what I do on a daily basis has much to do with culture and custom; rather most of our daily habits revolve around issues with hygiene such as tooth brushing, etc.
The main character, Peony, has the unfortunate bad luck of starving herself to death due to love sickness and then details the aftermath from her place in the after world. If you liked the Lovely Bones, which I did, you will connect with this book as well. Definitely a good beach or vacation book which goes hand in hand with a pair of Solmates Sunreaders.
As a spring treat, mention this book in the comment section when you order and we will add it to your sunglass delivery!
