When the Dog Bites, When the Bee Stings....


...when I'm feeling sad, I listen to Annie Lennox's new CD, Songs of Mass Destruction. There are 11 songs on this disc and my favorites are # 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, and 11. Each one is different and Lennox has a mesmerizing and gutsy voice. She also has a knack for shifting directions in the middle of a track which sucks you into paying attention. I also like that my voice works with hers so I can sing along, loudly, which drives my children mad. My rule is that I get to sing one song on the 15 minute drive to school and then I lovingly whisk them out of the car-as-fast-as-I-can to sing the whole way to Starbucks without their disapproving glares and sighs.


The lyrics to most of her songs are filled with struggle and pain which without the music are dark and depressing. She must have some insight into brain chemistry though because I feel uplifted and inspired when listening to this CD. Other music with depressing lyrics does not work this way for me. Typically songs like that can take me down faster than I can lose a credit card. Not so with this CD or any of her other music. If you want a little pick me up, pick up this CD.
