A long, long time ago, when I was a student at Penn State and living in dormitories that were insulated with corn cobs, my friends Holly and Mallary and I had a little publication that we generously shared with our dorm-sisters. It was called The Nittany News, and it was hung above the toilet paper in the Second Stall From the Left in the communal bathroom. I probably worked harder on it than I did on any school work, which would explain my GPA.
More recently, I started a business selling noline bifocal sunglasses, with my friend Cathy Cooke. This came about as the result of Cathy's and my ambivalence about getting older and a lack of good-looking pair of bifocal sunglasses in the retail market. There seems to be a prevailing philosophy in the fashion industry that if you can't read the price tag, you don't need a decent-looking pair of sunglasses.
Cathy and I have had many adventures in the pursuit of product development. The Eyewear Industry is not for the faint of heart, let me tell you. After many pitfalls and dead ends, we have created some good looking glasses. All of which we have done while carpooling, helping with homework, making dinner, and counting the number of new lines in our crow's feet. We've got some thoughts about all of this to share and they are just bubbling to the top and so here we are, back in the Second Stall from the Left, snickering at our laser-like wit.
We'd love to hear from you. Any tips about maintaining your sanity while working, products that have helped you face the mirror with courage, and books that you love, are greatly appreciated.
Thanks for reading.
