Hints for the Job Searcher

Cathy and I have a company called Syndesis, LLC which assists Human Resources Departments in wading through the thousands of resumes that result from a CareerBuilder job search (even with their screening tools, an unwary employer can still get alot of chaff in the search for the perfect kernel of wheat). At any rate, this allows Cathy and me the opportunity to read ALOT of resumes and to see alot of email addresses. Some job hunters don't seem to realize that their email addresses are a great big "KICK ME" sign stuck to their cover letters.

Today's email addresses were: BigSassyRedHead@abcd.com, belonging to a guy who has to lift 75 pounds, and BandBunny@abcd.com from a woman who was looking for a secretarial position, presumably with a musician. A year or so ago, I had one from a guy whose address was LivinToBeMe@abcd.com. Interestingly, he discussed at length his ability to be a team player.

My advice? Set up a separate account for job searching. With just your name. No numbers that could be your birth year, your age, or the year you graduated from high school. Granted, it won't be as interesting for Cathy and me, but you might just get a job.
