There is some speculation that

I might have an "addiction" to books. Well, if that is the case, I had a huge relapse this weekend, and knocked out a bunch that have been sitting on the bedside table. You can see some of them scrolling around on the "widget" from Amazon.

The first one that I started, and was heartily sorry to finish, was Someone Knows My Name. I strongly recommend this one. It is the story of a woman who was kidnapped, enslaved and brought to South Carolina. I won't spoil the story, but she overcomes incredible adversity and is smart and strong. It has a rewarding finish.

Mermaids in the Basement...does the world really need another book about rich, quirky Southerners? This book was nothing that it was purported to be...and it featured a Yorkie, whom I find irritating in fiction and in reality.

The Life Class started well, but I found the lead female character lackluster and sexually ambivalent. The male protagonist was far more sympathetic. The story takes place at the start of England's involvement in WW II. The main characters are art students all of whom are struggling with finding meaning in their lives and their art with the war creeping up in the background. One of the art school faculty members was based on a London art teacher in the 1930's. Overall, it was readable but also put-down-able.

So, get some of these...I'll let you know in a day or two what I think of Swim to Me, I just started it last night.
