Liz and I are really into the teachings of The Secret which among other things stresses positive thinking and energy as it relates to all things in life, especially those little gotchas that get in the way of productivity. This approach presents many opportunities for thinking differently and, as a single mother, it takes some energy to keep the positive karma humming.
The worst part of being a single mother for me is when things break around my house. Or in the case depicted above, my toilets and sinks get clogged. It wouldn't be such a big deal but when the kids get home from school, they will expect some sort of dinner prepared which is a challenge when our only kitchen sink is not functioning. The toilets are a different matter. We have three so we can just go to different bathrooms until I find the time to plunge.
Sometimes, it can take something as simple as this to get me in a dither. Enter Liz's husband Stephen. In a calm voice he explained to me that I can buy some Drano and whatever is creating this problem can be washed away with some chemicals. The next step will be plunging, and then a call to the plumber. OK...I can handle that. As soon as I fill a few more sunglass orders I am off to buy the Drano. Hopefully, my daughter will learn that women can fix these kinds of things with a can do attitude instead of whining and complaining which was my previous course of action.
Hopefully dinner will be served tonight and we won't have to resort to fast food.
