There are two men in my life, Rick and Dan, who frequently receive phone calls from me that go something like this, "DAMNIT, I am so lost, I don't know where I am going, OH LORD".
This is especially pathetic since I've lived in the same city for 20 years and I drive about 2o,oooo miles a year all within a 20 mile radius of my house. Let's just say, without the aid of drugs or alcohol, I can easily get disoriented. Dan and Rick are always goods sports as they have become my personal dial up mapquest systems. Seems Rick though tired of this responsibility and for Christmas I received one of those oh-so-romantic gifts; my very own GPS navigational system.
Always fearful of new technology, I looked at it in the box for a couple of weeks. Then I gave it to my 12 year old who mastered it in a nanosecond. His teaching skills are not as quick so I was left to my own devices to figure out how to use it.
Last week-end I set a little goal for myself....to learn how to program at least one destination. To my surprise, by Sunday night, that little gadget became my favorite new traveling companion. I have always hated driving alone. It makes me feel lonely which is why I am on the cell (hands free of course) 99 % of the time I am driving. However, having a soon to be teenager, I am mindful of the fact that I need to stay off the cell phone since I will be preaching the same to him in the very near future. That is why I find the lady in my GPS box so fun. She talks to me everytime I need to make a turn. I don't even have to talk back to her! Any unlike my kids, she doesn't talk back to me! I program it everytime I come home from anywhere, even though I know the way, just to get her advice on the very best route, etc. She and I are going to become very good friends.
A little bonus, too....with my SolMates SunReaders, which are not polarized, I can SEE the GPS screen. Polarized lenses interfere with LED screens. If you have a problem seeing tiny screens with your regular sunglasses, check us out at www.solmatesreaders.com.
