There are two things I love about Sports Illustrated, that little column that features amateur athletes and Rick Reilly's column. So, I was thrilled to see him shrugging his shoulders on the cover of his new book "Hate Mail from Cheerleaders". Whether you are a sports fan or not, and I'm not, especially professional sports because I think the majority of the players are overpaid head cases (I will write anything to get people to read this.), you will love the way that Mr. Reilly calls it the way he sees it. His cutthroat editorializing is tempered by stories of courage and toughness. If you ever find yourself feeling sorry for yourself, try reading the last essay of the book, "Trumpeting the Father of the Year". You cannot put it down dry eyed. Rick Reilly captures the best and worst of sports and has a pointed sense of the ridiculous. Thank you, thank you for this book. A perfect Christmas gift for any sports fan.
